License help
Where's my license key?
In the receipt Polar emailed when you bought Quality.Noted, and in your Polar customer portal (the link is in that email). Search your email for "Quality.Noted" or "Polar". Can't find it? Write to us from the address you bought with and we'll resend it.
"Activation limit reached"
Each license works on 2 Macs. On the Mac you're moving from, open Settings ▸ License ▸ Deactivate This Mac, then activate on the new one. If that Mac is gone, free it in your Polar customer portal (the link is in your receipt), or write to us.
"That key isn't valid"
Copy the key again straight from the receipt; a missing character or line break is the usual cause. Still stuck? Send us the exact message the app shows.
It says "License paused" or went back to the free version
The app re-checks your key when it opens, at most once a day, and keeps working offline for 30 days. After that, Settings ▸ License shows License paused: connect to the internet and click Check Again. If it says the key couldn't be read, enter your key again in the same place; this Mac's activation is reused, so it doesn't use up another Mac.
Refunds
Email [email protected] within 21 days of purchase for a full refund, no questions asked. It's paid back through Polar to your original payment method. Your license goes back to the free version and your audit results stay on your Mac.
Full details are in our Terms of Sale.

Which version do I have?
Choose Tab.Noted ▸ About Tab.Noted. It shows the version number followed by "(App Store)" or "(Direct)".
What's the difference between the App Store and direct-download versions?
Same app, same features. The App Store version is bought and updated through Apple. The direct version comes with a 14-day free trial, is bought through Polar, and updates itself. Direct versions are numbered 27.2.x and App Store versions 27.1.x.
What happens when the trial ends?
Tab.Noted turns read-only until you enter a license key. Your files still open, and you can scroll, search and copy, but editing and saving are paused. Buy a license and paste the key into Settings ▸ License to unlock it straight away. Nothing you wrote is lost.
Can I use my license on more than one Mac?
Yes, up to 2 Macs per license key. To move it, open Settings ▸ License ▸ Deactivate This Mac on the old Mac, or free a Mac in your customer portal.
I bought Tab.Noted on the App Store. Do I get a license key too?
They're separate purchases. If you'd like the direct version as well, email [email protected] with your App Store receipt and we'll send you a discount code.
Refunds
Direct download: email [email protected] within 21 days of purchase for a full refund, no questions asked. Mac App Store: refunds go through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Rae.Noted
Rae.Noted Help & Documentation →
It keeps showing "Allow Location Access"
Click Grant Access, then Allow. macOS hides Wi-Fi network names and BSSIDs from apps without Location access. Rae.Noted never reads your actual location.
"Location Access Is Off"
Click Open System Settings, then turn on Rae.Noted under Location Services.
"Network Details Unavailable"
Click Open System Settings, then turn Rae.Noted off and back on under Location Services.
How do I update?
The app doesn't check for updates itself. With Homebrew, run brew upgrade --cask rae-noted. Otherwise download the latest version from GitHub Releases.
Is it free?
Yes. There's no license, no trial and no account.
More answers are in Rae.Noted Troubleshooting.

When reporting a bug
To help us fix things quickly, it helps to include:
- Which app, and the app version
- Your device and OS version (e.g. macOS 26)
- What you expected to happen, and what actually happened
- Steps to reproduce it, if you know them
- For Rae.Noted: your Mac model, and a screenshot if it helps. Please blur real network names and BSSIDs first.
